YOGA STYLE DESCRIPTIONS:

-Ashtanga (8 limbs) Yoga consists of intense sequences which are designed to increase strength, flexibility, and endurance. A fast-paced flow of postures are synchronized with ujjayi breaths to invoke deep concentration. This deeply spiritual practice can cause positive live changes.
-In Iyengar Yoga, the use of props (belts, blocks, chairs, blankets) are used to assist in performing postures correctly. There is very thorough attention to detail, as you focus on structural alignment. This method of practice is perfect for students with physical restrictions or challenges. Iyengar Yoga is very beneficial for anyone in need of physical therapy, as it emphasizes in increasing circulation, mobility, stability, and general vitality.
-If you are looking for a more passive yoga class that targets your body’s ligaments and connective tissues, while strengthening your heart and mind – then Yin Yoga might be for you. Yin yoga is a calming style of yoga that consists of long held poses and slow transitions. It can dramatically improve Chi (energy) flow. The peaceful practice of Yin Yoga will leave you feeling centered, balanced, and whole.
-Are you an expecting, mother-to-be? Prenatal Yoga has a wide range of benefits that prepare you for labor and promote your baby’s health. Increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth through asanas (poses). Prenatal pranayama (yogic breathing techniques) may help you reduce or manage shortness of breath during pregnancy and work through contractions during labor. Yoga during pregnancy can decrease the risk of preterm labor, pregnancy-induced hypertension and intrauterine growth restriction — a condition that slows a baby’s growth.
-Yoga for Skiers and Snowboarders! This class features yoga poses specifically modified for skiers and snowboarders. It’s purpose is to help improve your performance by establishing better stability on the board/skis, increasing your flexibility, and strengthening your core and lower body muscles. Yoga can also reduce your chances of physical injury in the sport.
-Are you into CrossFit or weightlifting and looking to improve your posture and technique? Most people assume that an intense Crossfit class is the polar opposite of a calming yoga session, but research shows that you are likely to benefit more from your WOD, when it is combined with stretching and mobility work. Our Yogafitness class will help you develop body awareness with your lifts and movements to feel when your elbows are high and outside, or your overhead position is strong and locked out. Superb structural alignment and proper respiration are vital to your CrossFit workout and yoga will assist in achieving these qualities. It will open your chest and shoulders (necessary for quality overhead work), give you a solid deadlift stance, and intensify wrist and grip strength. Through Yoga, CrossFitters can grow stronger physically and mentally, ultimately leading to better performance results, speedier recovery and safer movements.
-Can’t decide between a yoga and pilates class? Yogalates creates a fusion of the ideals focused on in both classes. It combines thorough corework and intensive strength-conditioning with essential aspects of yoga like proper breathing, flexibility, and balance. The techniques are blended without detracting from the benefits that Yoga and Pilates offer separately. The integration of the two offer a very balanced synergy. During both the mind is very focused on fundamentals and structure. We gradually ease from the more meditative, peaceful sequences of yoga into a more extreme, fast-paced series of Pilates exercises.
Namaste.
